Unwanted Sexual Acts

It can be more difficult to name sexual assault if you are agreeing to participate in sexual acts because you want to avoid your partner’s outbursts of temper or anger, or because if you don’t agree you will be subjected to sulks, refusal to speak to you, refusal to give you money (for housekeeping) or other similar behaviour.

We now recognise that rape and sexual assault are very common elements of domestic abuse, and we also know that in around 40% - 60% of cases of child sexual abuse, there has been a history of domestic abuse within the home.
